Replaced Catalytic converter

If you’re planning to take your vehicle here take it somewhere else. We did business with this shop in the past with our own vehicle and they were great, which was my reason for bringing my daughters car back. Called yesterday to find out what they would charge us to remove a bolt from the manifold in order to pull the exhaust and have the catalytic converter changed (we had already had a place to change the converter that was going to cost us $180 but he was unable to remove the bottom bolt and advised us to have a mechanic do it because he was afraid he would break it). So we called and asked exactly that….”what would it cost to loosen the bottom bolt on the manifold that holds on the exhaust?” The guy seemed confused by the request even after explaining it a few different times, so frustrated we just asked what it would cost for them to replace the catalytic converter. He quoted us $140. My husband asked twice after that “and this is for the welded on type of converter correct?” at which point the guy verified. Fast forward to today and we get a phone call from the same guy saying it was going to be $280 now. His reason, because we didn’t supply the converter. ARE YOU KIDDING ME? First off us supplying the converter was NEVER MENTIONED not once! Had we known that I would have found someone else to just loosen the bolt and taken it back to the place I originally wanted to do the work for $180. So we ask what he would charge just to remove the bolt and then we would just come get it and go elsewhere…..$80. Wow, $80 just to loosen a bolt. I’m sorry but that is just shady business and will be sure to never return again. I’ll also be sure to let everyone I know that they can find someone who is honest elsewhere because they won’t get it here.
